STUDENT VOICE GROUP’S EVENT

  STUDENT VOICE GROUP’s Event.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all schools in Malaysia have been ordered to shut down until further notice, ours included. This in turn hindered all activities initially planned by our school from taking place. However, that hasn’t stopped the school’s Student Voice Group from holding fun activities online to be enjoyed by all students. Here are a couple of the many events held by the SVG throughout 2021.

1. Public Speaking Competition 💬

Our school’s public speaking event was originally supposed to take place daily at the school’s canteen during recess. One by one, students would come on stage and talk about anything in particular for about 2-3 minutes until the recess period ended.

On 5th June 2021, a post was made on the school’s official Instagram account detailing a public speaking competition being held by the SVG in collaboration with the English Committee. Students were to submit one 4-6 minute video of them talking about whatever they want before 14th June (originally 10th June). The prizes included a school certificate and a chance to be chosen as the school representative for future competitions. This competition was an amazing way to encourage students to gain confidence and not be afraid to speak in front of an audience (even if said audience was watching through their screens).

The competition has since ended. You can watch the videos submitted by the participants on our school’s Instagram.

The participant :

1. Aqesha Humaira ( 1 Diamond )

2. Noorhani Zaiyani ( 3 Diamond )

2. Cyberians Got Talent 🎭

Inspired by classic talent shows such as America’s Got Talent and Asia’s Got Talent, Cyberians Got Talent was held as a way for students to express themselves freely through their talents. Just like the public speaking competition, posts were made on the school’s Instagram detailing the rules and regulations.

The final show was held on 19th June and streamed live via YouTube from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm. The show was made extra exciting by allowing the audience to vote for their favorite act via Google form, which counted as 30% of the final vote. The acts ranged from singing to instrument playing.

Overall, the talent show was a success thanks to the hard work of the organizers, the students who participated, and those in the audience who helped maximize the amount of fun had by all.

CONCLUSION

Although we are all stuck inside of our homes, that doesn’t mean we can’t have have fun The events held online by the SVG (and by the school in general) are designed to not only allow students to enjoy themselves, but to gain benefits in the process. Hopefully, students will feel more encouraged to join future events after seeing the positive outcome that they can produce.
