5 STUDYING TIPS

Welcome back readers! This week I have five - yes you heard me FIVE - studying tips for you to read up on and help you with your studying!

1. Pick a place and time

Everyone has their own preferences about the best place and time to study, no one is wrong and no one is right about this as it’s all dependent on the individual.

● Study Space - Location, location, location, like any real estate agent will tell you location is important and your study space is too. Your space to study is where you personally would find best to study in. It doesn’t matter how much you study if you’re not comfortable doing it where you are.

● Schedule - Remember it’s ‘Studying’ not ‘Studying’, you need a time that works best for you. Schedule what you want to learn and when and follow it through, it’s not healthy nor effective to study at random times and random things.

Sun Tzu once said; “Knowing the place and the time of the coming battle, we may concentrate from the greatest distances in order to fight”, if a place and time can help on the battlefields of old then they can help on the battlefield of study

2. Way of learning Most of us have a preferred way of learning.

Find out which way of learning you’re most comfortable with and use it. Take note that these are just a small list of possible ways you can learn, there are many more ways out there and it’s up to you to find what way works best for you.

 ● Auditory Learners prefer to learn by listening. Try reading your notes aloud and discussing them with other people. You might like to record points and play them back.

● Visual learners prefer to learn by seeing. Try using colours in your notes and draw diagrams to help represent key points. You could try to remember some ideas as images.

 ● Hands-on learners prefer to learn by doing. Try role-playing or building models to revise key points.

Everyone has their own way of learning, and not all learn the same way as others because we are individuals with our personality traits, as the saying goes “to each their own”

3. Lend a helping hand

If someone you know is having a hard time with their studies, help them, because it will help you understand the material yourself better, and later on if you are stuck you can ask others for help.

“Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have” - Jim Rohn

4. Review and revise At least once a week you should go back over the things you’ve studied.

Thinking things over can help you to understand the concepts and help you remember when you need them the most. You can do this by making someone quiz you or by making your own study materials such as flash cards.

“Don’t practice until you get it right, practice until you can’t get it wrong” - Unknown

5. Take breaks

It’s important to take breaks while you’re studying, especially if you’re feeling tired or frustrated. Working too long on a task can actually decrease your performance.

When you take a break, make sure to get away from your study space. A bit of physicality - even just a walk around the block - can sometimes help you to look at a problem in a different way and could even help you to solve it.
